The Erie County District Attorney’s Office has assigned several prosecutors to a newly formed tactical prosecution unit.

“We believe this new prosecution unit will be able to more efficiently identify and target the most dangerous and violent criminals for criminal prosecution,” said District Attorney Frank A. Sedita III.

The new unit, part of the Felony Trial Bureau, will prosecute gang members, juvenile felony offenders and those who commit violent crimes against especially vulnerable victims, Sedita said.

Complex narcotics and officer-involved shooting investigations will also be handled by the unit.

Senior Trial Counsel Christopher J. Belling will lead the unit. Others assigned to the unit are principal narcotics prosecutor Mary Beth DePasquale, chief juvenile justice prosecutor Paul Parisi, senior Operation Impact prosecutor Michael Felicetta, and prosecutor John Feroleto.

Phil Torre, the district attorney’s criminal investigator and a former Buffalo homicide detective, has also been assigned to the unit.

Prosecutors assigned to the unit will be available to provide legal advice and other assistance to all police agencies 24 hours a day, seven days a week, Sedita said.
