The Friends of Reinstein Nature Preserve has partnered with the Department of Environmental Conservation for a “Kids in the Woods” Summer Day Camp program at the preserve in Cheektowaga.
Week-long camping adventures are set up for children in class groups from kindergarten to grade seven. Campers registering by Thursday receive a $10 discount.
Two Little Sprouts camps are set for grades K-1, two Nature Explorers camps are for grades 2-4 and Wilderness Adventurers are planned for kids in grades 5-7.
Reinstein also joins with the New York State Office of Parks at Evangola State Park and the Penn Dixie Center to provide a series of five-day “Summer Science Safari” classes open to youths ages 8 to 12.

Response and discussion of options for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers construction and repair to the Springville dam is such that a public information meeting will be held from 7-9 p.m. on March 5 in the Concord Town Hall Auditorium.
Fish passage is a major concern, and officials will discuss alternatives for the work project that includes repair as well as upgrading of the dam.

In 2010, the DEC acquired a 6,684-acre parcel of land in Livingston and Ontario Counties in the area of Hemlock and Canadice Lakes. A ten-year Hemlock-Canadice Unit Management Plan outlines the history and outdoors resources (grasslands, forests, and wetlands) that require supervision and enhancement.
A public meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. on March 14 at the Springwater Fire Hall at 8145 South Main St. to discuss the draft plan.
