The Zoning Board of Appeals this week will once again consider whether to grant nine variances to Iskalo Development for its Hyatt Place hotel project, which would occupy property behind the Lord Amherst Hotel on the northwest side of the Main Street and I-290 interchange.
The variances, which address everything from parking to building height, were initially considered by the board last month before a packed audience. Many were residents who expressed strong opposition to the project despite a detailed presentation by the developer regarding the need for the variances at the start of the public hearing.
The Zoning Board will also consider its first request from a homeowner to allow his family to raise chickens now that the Town Board has approved a special use permit making it legal for many homeowners to do so under certain circumstances.
The Zoning Board will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the council chambers of the Amherst Municipal Building, 5583 Main St., Williamsville.

• The Town Board will hold its regular meeting at 7 p.m. Monday in the council chambers of the Amherst Municipal Building, 5583 Main St., Williamsville. The meeting will be preceded by a work session at 3 p.m.
• The Williamsville Village Board will meet at 7:30 p.m. Monday in Village Hall, 5565 Main St. The meeting will be preceded by a work session at 6 p.m.
• The Williamsville School Board will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the District Office board room, 105 Casey Rd., East Amherst, for a budget work session and public forum. Superintendent Scott Martzloff will provide an update on the developing 2013-2014 budget. The board is soliciting public feedback prior to receiving a preliminary 2013-14 budget on March 5.
Amherst Police Chief John Askey also will be present at the meeting to answer questions related to the need for additional school security measures, which are being planned for as part of next year’s budget.
