The Buffalo Junior Sabres 12-and-under team won’t sneak up on any teams any more at the Quebec Pee Wee International Tournament.

That’s because the Junior Sabres, an all-star squad consisting of top players from Buffalo, Rochester and Syracuse, beat national No. 2 Detroit Honeybaked, 3-2, on Thursday in Quebec City. Buffalo’s Zachary Rehbaum’s goal with less than two minutes left broke a 2-2 tie and completed the Junior Sabres’ rally from a 2-0 third-period deficit.

“It’s an amazing feeling, it still hasn’t set in,” coach Rory Fitzpatrick said. “These players will remember this moment for the rest of their lives. I told the kids before the game; they are just as talented and belong on the same ice with a team like Detroit.”

Joel Farabee scored twice for Buffalo, which plays the New York Rangers’ Elite Team at 8 a.m. Friday.
