Louis M. Russell of Buffalo, a former employee of the Buffalo Urban League, died Monday in Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He was 90.
Born in Buffalo, he was a graduate of Hutchinson-Central High School and later attended both Bryant & Stratton Institute and the University of Buffalo. He served in the Army during World War II, attaining the rank of corporal. He was awarded the Silver Star while stationed in France and Germany.
Mr. Russell was a certified life insurance underwriter with Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. for many years. He also was a licensed real estate agent.
He was employed with the Buffalo Urban League as both a project director and counselor for the agency’s on-the-job training program. He retired in 1988. He was an elder and Sunday school teacher in Mount Zion Church of God Holiness, 32 Oakgrove Ave., for more than 50 years.
He is survived by two brothers, Alvin H. and Robert T. Sr.
A funeral service will be held at noon Tuesday in True Bethel Baptist Church, 907 E. Ferry St.
