Two brothers accused of running a suburban burglary ring are now facing federal gun charges.
Kevin and Jeffrey Zimmerman of Cheektowaga were charged Friday with felony possession of firearms, according to Frank J. Christiano, resident agent in charge of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
Christiano said the Zimmermans were in state custody as a result of their arrest last month in connection with the burglaries, and are now facing gun possession charges because of new information uncovered as part of a joint investigation by the ATF and several local police departments.
Police say the Zimmermans and a third man, Alfred Tatman of Cheektowaga, are suspected in about three dozen burglaries in Amherst, Clarence, Cheektowaga and several other towns across Erie County.
Investigators believe the three men stole money to support their heroin addictions.
