A nearly two-hour standoff ended peacefully when he surrendered and left a house in the 400 block of Hinman Avenue in North Buffalo.

Buffalo SWAT team members responded to the scene shortly after 12:45 p.m. after receiving a report that the man had a shotgun and had barricaded himself inside, threatening to kill anyone who approached, authorities said.

The man, who is in his 50s, was taken to the Veterans Affairs Medical Center for observation. No charges have been filed against him.

Contrary to earlier reports, police said there was no indication that the man had a weapon.

As a precaution, police closed off Hinman to the west at Military Road. In addition, a Rural/Metro Medical Services ambulance was dispatched to the scene and placed on standby.

Hinman runs west to east near the Kenmore border.
