Bruegger’s Bagels plans to expand into the Western New York market by opening nine franchise shops here over the next three years, according to company officials.

The bagel chain, which started in the Capital District and now is headquartered in Burlington, Vt., is looking to add 100 shops to its national network of 304 locations by the end of 2015.

The push into the Buffalo area is part of Bruegger’s strategy to “aggressively expand” into new markets in states where the company already has a presence, said Kelly Tope, the director of franchise development.

Bruegger’s has 33 locations in New York in the Albany, Syracuse and Rochester areas, with most shops located in strip centers along commuter corridors.

The company, which is seeking franchisees for the nine new shops planned for the Buffalo area, also is planning to open three or four shops in the Utica market.
