Simply put, if the St. Bonaventure men’s basketball team wants a chance to at least defend its Atlantic 10 championship it needs to start winning some games to qualify for the conference tournament.

The Bonnies get another chance at doing just that tonight when they host Massachusetts (16-8, 6-5) at the Reilly Center (7 p.m., Time Warner Cable SportsChannel).

Bona has lost three of its last four — including two straight by three points each — to blunt any momentum it had after winning for the first time in its history at Temple and also earning a rare win at Saint Joseph’s last month.

The Bonnies (11-13, 4-7) are tied for 12th in the conference standings and only the top 12 advance to next month’s A-10 Tournament.

Winning their last three home games would help immensely, as the Bonnies have won just one conference game in four tries at Reilly Center.

Demitrius Conger (13.6 points per game), Chris Johnson (12.5) and Eric Mosley (11.5) are the only Bona players averaging double figures.

In women’s action tonight, University at Buffalo (8-16, 6-5) hosts Mid-American Conference foe Miami (Ohio) at 7 (Radio 1340).

UB beat the RedHawks (14-10, 6-5), 78-70, in Oxford, Ohio, earlier this season. Picked to win the East Division, Miami is tied for third with UB and has gone 1-4 since losing to the Bulls.

UB had a season high 23 assists as a team in its triumph at Eastern Michigan last Saturday. Junior Margeaux Gupilan finished with a career-high nine assists in the 79-63 win.

Cherridy Thornton leads the Bulls with 12.1 points per game, while Rachael Gregory follows at 10.7.
