A Staten Island man whose actions prompted a JetBlue flight to be diverted to Buffalo Niagara International Airport was sentenced Wednesday by U.S. Magistrate Judge H. Kenneth Schroeder to a year of probation.

Elvir Ardolic, 35, was a passenger on a flight traveling from JFK Airport in New York to Chicago June 23, 2012 when, after drinking, he became disruptive enough that the plane had to be diverted to Buffalo.

Ardolic, who was represented by defense lawyer Michael Seibert, apologized for his behavior that day, calling it a “really stupid mistake."

The case was handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Aaron J. Mango with help from the FBI and Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority Police.
