Buffalo State cruised into the semifinals of the State University of New York Athletic Conference men’s hockey tournament with a 6-0 win over Fredonia in front of 605 at the Ice Arena on Wednesday night.

Next for the Bengals (13-11-2) is a semifinal game at top-seeded Oswego (21-4) at 7 p.m. Saturday.

The Bengals took a 2-0 lead after the first period on goals by Brett Hope and Ryan Salkeld.

Nick Melligan (Niagara-Wheatfield) scored the first of his two goals in the second period as the Bengals held a 25-9 advantage in shots on goal through the first 40 minutes. Matt Bessing (Cheektowaga) picked up a goal and two assists while Elijah Cohen added a goal.

Goaltender Kevin Carr needed to make just 17 saves to earn the shutout for the Bengals.
