Cartoon about pope was in poor taste

Adam Zyglis’ cartoon in the Feb. 13 News was in bad taste. Pope Benedict XVI is not some second-rate politician running for office. Neither is he an appointee of some government agency with whose policies you disagree.

The pope is the leader of the Catholic Church throughout the world, having been elected by his peers after many days of thoughtful reflection.

Whether Benedict has been a great pope or is to be compared to the beloved Pope John Paul II is not for me to say. What I am free to say, and now must say, is that you should think long and hard about the appropriateness of attacking Jesus Christ’s chosen representative on earth in cartoon fashion.
