A Cheektowaga man was charged early Saturday with criminal impersonation and then arrested on an outstanding warrant after he was pulled over for having a headlight out.

Troopers spotted a headlight and license plate light out on a Mitsubishi Eclipse on Transit Road on Lancaster about 2:15 a.m., according to state police. When troopers pulled the car over, the driver gave a name – which was flagged as having a warrant out for his arrest.

Once the driver found out he was going to be turned over to the Lackawanna police for the warrant, he gave troopers a different name, they said. However, Buffalo police had a warrant out for his arrest.

Gregory M. Benson II, 38, was charged with criminal impersonation and turned over to Buffalo police. He will be arraigned in Lancaster Town Court on the impersonation charge at a future date.
