Lenten lectures: Westminster Presbyterian Church’s annual Lenten Lecture Series kicks off from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. on Feb. 24 in the church’s Case Library, 724 Delaware Ave.

Guest lecturer will be Matthew Mitchell, faculty member in Canisius College’s religious studies department, who will discuss Richard Friedman’s latest book, “The Bible Now.”

The series continues March 3, 10, 17 and 24, and will focus on how the Bible views homosexuality, abortion, the status of women, capital punishment and the Earth.

Catholic youth: The Catholic Diocese of Buffalo’s 61st annual Diocesan Youth Convention continues today and Sunday in the Adam’s Mark Hotel with about 500 youths in attendance. The theme is “Through Temptation to Salvation,” Retreat facilitator and musician Cooper Ray presents the keynote address at 9:15 a.m. today.

The convention concludes Sunday with a 12:45 p.m. liturgy celebrated by Bishop Richard J. Malone.

Roswell chaplain: The Rev. Reninger Flores has joined the pastoral care team at Roswell Park Cancer Institute as a Protestant chaplain. A native of Peru, Flores will provide spiritual care to patients and work closely with the supportive and palliative care team as well as with other staff chaplains and pastoral care volunteers.

Flores was appointed a church planner for the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Buffalo in 2005. He also has served as a chaplain aide for the Catholic Health System’s McAuley Seton Home Care and is an elder to Buffalo Suburban Seventh-Day Adventist Church.
