The Great Lakes Center at Buffalo State College has received a five-year, $1.1 million state grant to set up an office for invasive species management in the eight counties of Western New York.

The state Department of Environmental Conservation is funding the new office, known as Partnership for Regional Invasive Species Management.

“The office will serve as a clearinghouse for all information pertaining to invasive species in Western New York,” said Christopher Pennuto, a research scientist with the Great Lakes Center and director of the new Buffalo office.

The office also will coordinate with existing environmental groups that are addressing invasive species.
