A West Seneca man was arrested by Buffalo police this afternoon, about six hours after he allegedly robbed a First National Bank branch in West Seneca.

William Shanahan, 34, of Burch Street, was arrested about 3:30 p.m. by Officers Pat Crowley and Mark Tripp while Shanahan was visiting friends at a house in the 600 block of Fillmore Avenue, city police spokesman Michael J. DeGeorge said.

The police veterans zeroed in on Shanahan – who has had other brushes with law enforcement – based on the description of the description of the robber and the clothing he wore, DeGeorge said.

“They surprised him at the door,” he said of the arresting officers.

Shanahan was turned over to West Seneca police on robbery charges.

Meanwhile, after taking Shanahan into custody, Crowley and Tripp arrested two other men at the Fillmore Avenue address, Albert Drake and Bernard P. Liusey, ages unavailable, and charged them with criminal possession of a crack cocaine, DeGeorge said.
