Three men were charged with marijuana possession and animal cruelty after a drug raid this week on Courtland Avenue in Buffalo.

Buffalo police seized more than a pound of marijuana and a severely underweight pit bull at an apartment in the first block of Courtland, according to a police report.

Charged with second-degree pot possession and cruelty to animals were Carnell Paulk II, 29, of Freeman Street; Stephen King, 30, of Englewood Avenue; and Andre Sumpter, 30, of Harlem Road, Sloan.

Detectives conducting the raid reported finding “an emaciated pit bull” that was “locked in a crate without food or water and was covered with feces.”

Workers with the city animal control shelter took the starving dog for care and treatment, police said.
