The Thruway has reopened after a fatal accident just east of the Transit Road exit in Depew closed the eastbound lanes for nearly five hours Tuesday night.

State police closed the eastbound Interstate 90 between the Depew and Pembroke exits about 8:15 p.m. after a pedestrian reportedly was struck in the eastbound lanes in Lancaster. The fatal incident occurred between Transit and Harris Hill roads, troopers said. Traffic backed up for nearly 2 miles as tractor-trailers and other vehicles were diverted to Genesee Street.

The roadway remained closed until about 1 a.m. Further information about the accident was unavailable late Tuesday.
