Eugene J. O’Brien, longtime co-owner of O’Brien’s Sleepy Hollow, died in his Elma home Friday after a long illness. He was 87.

Born in Buffalo, Mr. O’Brien graduated from South Park High School. He served as a corporal in the Marines and was one of five brothers to serve simultaneously during World War II. All five brothers survived the war.

Mr. O’Brien worked as an electrician at Bethlehem Steel for 20 years and later co-owned the family business, O’Brien’s, an outdoor wedding facility in East Aurora, with his wife, Jane, for more than 40 years. He retired about eight years ago. The business is now run by the third generation of O’Briens.

Mr. O’Brien also was an artist, a woodworker and breadmaker. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, the former Jane Kingston; four daughters, Therese Voltz, Karen Klaich, Ann McKenna and Bridget Wood; and four sons, Gary, James, Dennis and Patrick.
