Bigger may not be better for school consolidation

Regarding the recent News editorial on school consolidation, school districts should certainly be exploring all available options to control costs and maintain programs. However, the lauding of countywide school systems requires careful analysis. I would suggest The News take a look at the Fairfax County School System website (Virginia) and others and count the number of assistant superintendents and directors who are employed. Large is not always better or more efficient. Also, major cities in Virginia operate their own school systems independent of the county.
