August P. Lindell, a skilled mechanic and dairy farmer, died Thursday morning in a farming accident near Hungry Hollow Road in Great Valley, Cattaraugus County. He was 29.
The Olean native was a 2002 graduate of Ellicottville Central High School and studied mechanics at Alfred State College, where he earned an associate’s degree in diesel mechanics in 2004.
Mr. Lindell worked for Anderson Equipment and J.D. Northrup Construction before returning to farming, which he had enjoyed as a boy assisting his father and grandfather.
Mr. Lindell woke up at dawn to milk cows, worked the fields during the day and then milked the cows again – spending as much as 100 hours per week on the farm.
Mr. Lindell was known in the community as an avid storyteller and socializer, and he was readily available to help neighbors and fellow farmers by pulling a car out of a ditch or fixing farm machinery.
Survivors include a daughter, Tatymn; a son, Theryn; his parents, Steve and Susan; a sister, Sarah Clancy; and a brother, Ethan.
A service will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Mentley Funeral Home, 411 Rock City St., Little Valley.
