BATAVIA – One of Genesee Community College Foundation’s most generous donors was honored Friday with the dedication of a library instruction room in his memory.
Lynn E. Browne died at age 88 in 2011 in Colorado, where he moved to be near his daughter.
A native of Batavia, he had returned to his hometown after selling a button manufacturing business in Philadelphia.
During the three decades after his return, he served on the GCC Foundation’s board of trustees as treasurer, where he oversaw significant growth in endowments.
In 2006, the college presented him its first Alpha Medal of Service, which the family returned, to be displayed in the room bearing his name.
Richard G. Ensman Jr., executive director of the foundation, praised Browne for his continuing focus on “removing the barriers that might block students’ way through campus housing, which Brown supported with scholarships or other financial aid.”
