Linda M. Monforte, of Hamburg, a restaurant owner known as “the Queen of Sunset Bay,” died Friday after a four-year battle with lung cancer. She was 62.

Born Linda M. Lang in Buffalo, she was a graduate of Hamburg High School and was a real estate agent with Gallery of Homes before she acquired Calico Jack’s restaurant in the lakeside community of Sunset Bay in the Chautauqua County Town of Hanover in 1979.

Mrs. Monforte originated events such as an annual Pirate Raid and a season-closing Boat Burning Party, and organized various fundraisers for Lake Shore Hospital in Irving.

She also welcomed boaters by hosting a regular stop in Lake Erie regattas. In 1997, she sold the restaurant, now named Cabana Sam’s Sunset Bay Grill.

She served as secretary- treasurer of the Lake Shore Hospital Foundation.

An avid golfer, she was a member of Brierwood Country Club and Rosebrook Country Club. She also enjoyed travel and gardening and was an expert Sudoku player.

Surviving are her companion, Daniel Buckley; a son, Michael; two daughters, Deborah Stock and Melissa; and a sister, Joyce Seymour.

Services will be at 10 a.m. today in St. James United Church of Christ, 76 Main St., Hamburg.
