A woman driving the wrong way on the Niagara Thruway in the Town of Tonawanda Tuesday night struck another vehicle head-on, leaving her with multiple broken bones and the other driver with minor injuries, state police said.

Shortly after 8 p.m., Anita Sardina, 65, of Amherst drove through the toll booths at the South Grand Island Bridges driving south on the northbound side. She crashed into a car driven by Timothy Dzierba, 66, of Grand Island who was in the left lane of the northbound side.

Sardina suffered numerous broken bones.

Dzierba complained of chest, back and neck pain.

They were taken to Erie County Medical Center for treatment.

State police investigators were trying to determine why Sardina ended up on the wrong side of Interstate-190.

No charges have been filed so far.
