Alice M. Pytak, a Lackawanna freelance writer and part-time secretary, died Sunday in Fox Run Nursing Home, Orchard Park. She was 82.

Born in Buffalo, she was a local freelance writer and was published in regional and national publications, including Reader’s Digest. She specialized in local and regional historical pieces, and her writing appeared in the Sunday magazines of The Buffalo News and the Courier-Express, and the Catholic Digest. She also wrote a history of Our Lady of Victory Basilica, which was popular with tourists. She was a member of the National League of American Pen Women.

The former Alice Pientka was a graduate of Villa Maria Academy and Empire State College. She was a longtime member of Our Lady of Victory Parish, where she sang in the choir for more than 30 years. She also was a tour guide at the basilica for many years.

Her husband of 51 years, Richard, died in 2011.

Survivors include two sons, Richard and David, and two daughters, Mary Hageman and Linda Mendola.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday in Our Lady of Bistrica Croatian Catholic Church, 1619 Abbott Road, Lackawanna.
