Harold F. Miller of Williamsville, a longtime history teacher in the Buffalo school system, died Tuesday in McAuley Residence, Town of Tonawanda, after a long illness. He was 77.

Born in Buffalo, Mr. Miller was a 1952 graduate of St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute before receiving bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Canisius College.

Mr. Miller was a history teacher in the city system from 1960 until retiring in 1990. He then taught part time at St. Francis and Cardinal O’Hara high schools.

Fond of vacationing at Chautauqua Lake, Mr. Miller was also an avid swimmer, enjoyed photography, writing poems and had an acute interest in American history. He was an active member of the St. Gregory’s Bible Study group at the Amherst parish.

He is survived by his wife, the former Judy Ann Occhipinti; four sons, Hal Jr., Joe and Stephen Miller, and John Occhipinti; three daughters, Mary Duke, Cherylann Campbell and Karen Occhipinti; and a sister, Judy Reifsteck.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9 a.m. today in St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 200 St. Gregory Court, Amherst.
