A Lancaster man convicted of attempting to receive child pornography was sentenced today to a mandatory minimum term of five years in prison.

Joseph S. Marranca, 68, was accused of trying to arrange a sexual encounter with a 14-year-old girl, who in reality was an FBI agent posing as the girl.

“Luckily, there was no actual teenager he was communicating with,” said Assistant U.S. Attorney Marie P. Grisanti.

Marranca’s lawyer acknowledged the requirement for a mandatory sentence but asked U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara for leniency regarding other aspects of his client’s sentence.

“Mr. Marranca couldn’t be a more contrite, more humiliated man," said defense lawyer Anthony D. Abbarno of Buffalo.

Marranca, who has been in custody since his arrest in August, will begin serving his sentence immediately.
