Lucy Eleanor Garrett, a retired employee of the state Department of Labor, died Saturday in Buffalo General Medical Center after a short illness. She was 76.

A Buffalo native, Ms. Garrett graduated from Fosdick-Masten Park High School in 1953 and from Medaille College in 1982 with an associate’s degree in liberal studies.

For 31 years, she worked as a senior employment interviewer for the Department of Labor, retiring in 1991.

Ms. Garrett served on the board of directors of the Langston Hughes Institute and was a past member of the Women’s Auxiliary of the NAACP.

Surviving are two sons, Donald M. and Bradley A.

A viewing will be from 11 a.m. to noon Friday, followed by a service in New Mount Ararat Temple of Prayer, 983 Jefferson Ave.
