Four people were injured Wednesday morning in a head-on collision between a car and private bus carrying passengers with special needs, according to Eden police.

Police said a car driven by Kevin M. Sprawka, 21, of Gowanda, crossed over the center line of Route 62, near Carpenter Road, colliding with a Carrier Coach bus occupied by 13 people.

Sprawka was removed from his vehicle by members of the Eden Emergency & Rescue Squad, and the Eden Fire Department. He was taken by ambulance to Erie County Medical Center, where he’s listed in stable condition.

Traveling in the bus were its driver, a bus aide and 11 passengers, who were attended to by members of Erie County’s Specialized Medical Assistance Response Team. Three bus occupants, whose names weren’t released by police, were taken to ECMC with minor injuries.

The accident, reported at about 8:30 a.m., closed Route 62, between Sandrock and Pontiac roads, for more than two hours.

Members of the Erie County Sheriff’s Accident Investigation Unit and State Police are assisting in the investigation.
