Helen Amico of Orchard Park, a member of the board of her family’s business, Valu Home Centers, died Saturday in Father Baker Manor rehabilitation center, Orchard Park. She was 91.
A native of Lackawanna, the former Helen Babkiewicz was a 1939 graduate of Lackawanna High School.
After working as a saleswoman in Adam, Meldrum & Anderson department store, she worked on the assembly line of Curtiss-Wright during World War II.
Mrs. Amico was a volunteer worker for many years at the West Seneca Rehabilitation Center and was a volunteer for the Sisters of Mercy charity in Deerfield Beach, Fla., where she maintained a winter home for the last 25 years.
Her husband, noted oral surgeon Dr. Joseph S. Amico, died in 2002 after 56 years of marriage.
Survivors include a son, Allan M. Amico.
Among Mrs. Amico’s brothers-in-law are the Rev. Charles Amico, former Erie County Sheriff Michael Amico and the late Monsignor Richard Amico.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. Saturday in Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church, 26 Thorn Ave., Orchard Park.
