LOCKPORT – Dawn M. Timm, Niagara County’s environmental coordinator, was named interim director of the Refuse Disposal District on Monday, at a stipend of $8,500 a year.

She succeeds Richard P. Pope, who resigned Jan. 2, two months after being placed on administrative leave. Pope was accused of violations of the county’s policies on employee residency and personal use of county vehicles.

County Manager Jeffrey M. Glatz said Monday he would have disciplined Pope but kept him on as director. He said Pope rendered that plan moot by resigning, and thus he will not release the results of his investigation.

Timm said she will report within 30 to 60 days on the future of the district’s only active landfill, which Glatz would like to see closed within a year. She intends to work two days a week at the district office.
