LOCKPORT – The Town of Porter requested $150,000 in Niagara River Greenway funds Monday for upgrades at Porter-on-the-Lake, the town’s only municipal park.

Town grant writer Bernie Rotella said the request breaks down as $90,000 for playground equipment, $40,000 for park pavilions and $10,000 for mandatory Greenway signs.

The Niagara County Legislature’s Greenway Committee seemed friendly to the request but won’t give a formal response for about a month on the town’s request for a recommendation. The actual purse strings are controlled by the Host Communities Standing Committee, whose next meeting is in late March.
