Let’s leave Christ out of gun control debate

A recent contributor asserted that the Second Amendment was not merely an act of law, but was, in fact, divinely inspired. Unfortunately, I was unable to find any supportive evidence to this claim in the scriptures. Nowhere did I find God’s admonition to “keep holy the gun” or any verse wherein Jesus tells his followers to “lock and load.”

Maybe the letter writer interprets the words of “the Prince of Peace” to mean that we should live in a society where people go about armed to the teeth, suspicious and paranoid of others and ever willing to open fire. I, and millions of other Christians, do not. I would suggest that this individual, and other like-minded reactionaries, refrain from using their utter lack of understanding of the message of Christ to support their own fear-based political agenda.
