Sister Mary Priscilla Delewski, who taught and ministered in health care, died Friday in Mercy Hospital. She was 86.
Sister Priscilla was born Rita Rose Delewski in Pittsburgh. She entered the Congregation of the Franciscan Sisters of St. Joseph in 1940 and professed her final vows in 1948.
She studied at Notre Dame College in Baltimore and earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Medaille College. Sister Priscilla also studied at the McAuley School of Practical Nursing in Batavia, where she earned LPN credentials.
For 31 years, Sister Priscilla ministered in the field of education at Corpus Christi and St. Columba parishes in Buffalo, St. Vincent in North Evans and St. Michael in Bridgeport, Conn.
Beginning in 1979, she ministered for 23 years in health care at St. Clare Manor Nursing Home in Lockport and the Motherhouse Infirmary in Hamburg.
Sister Priscilla, who was considered prayerful and eager to help everyone, joined the Colette Hilbert Care Community in March 2002.
Survivors include a sister, Bernadette Ambrose.
A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. today in Immaculate Conception Convent Chapel, Hamburg.
