Amherst Central School District is currently holding pre-kindergarten registration for the 2013-2014 academic year.

The half-day program, which is open to any 4 year-old child residing in the district, operates from three sites – Windermere Boulevard Elementary School, at 291 Windermere Blvd., Amherst Community Church Child Care Center, at 77 Washington Highway and Amherst Nursery School, at 350 Saratoga Road.

Registration forms will be available through the Early Childhood Education Center at Windermere Elementary. Placements are not guaranteed because class sizes are limited. Tentative placement letters will be sent to families in mid-February. For more information, call 362-4100.

• “City Island,” starring Andy Garcia and Julianna Marguiles, is the free feature film being shown at 3:30 p.m. today in the Williamsville Meeting House on, 5658 Main Street, Williamsville. The film is rated PG-13. No reservations are needed. A special movie goers discount dinner is being offered by Pizza Plant at the Walker Center, 5110 Main Street.

• The Williamsville Village Board will meet at 7:30 p.m. Monday in Village Hall, 5565 Main St. The meeting will be preceded by a work session at 6 p.m.

• The Clearfield Community Center is inviting all children ages 12 and under to come in for some free Valentine’s Day crafts and Valentine-making activities from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. No pre-registration required. The community center is located at 730 Hopkins Road.

• Open auditions for Amherst Teen Idol will take place from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday in the Boulevard Mall Food Court. The contest is open to all amateur soloists ages 12 to 20. Contestants will vie for the chance to compete in a final round on March 23. Registration is required. Application forms are available by visiting keyword: teen idol.
