Isabelle W. Farewell of Amherst, a retired associate professor at the University at Buffalo, died Tuesday in the Beechwood Residence, Getzville. She was 81.

Born in Buffalo, she was a graduate of Holy Angels Academy and D’Youville College.

Prior to her employment at UB, Mrs. Farewell was employed for over 25 years as a medical technologist, the last 10 of those years at Erie County Medical Center.

In 1976, she became an associate professor at the Educational Opportunity Center of UB, where she helped to educate economically disadvantaged adults interested in careers in the health care industry.

Mrs. Farewell was a recipient of the Oxner-Lytle Award for Teaching Excellence.

After her retirement in 1991, she served on the boards of Benedict House, the Bridge to Building Community and the Fillmore-Leroy Area Residents Association.

She also was a board member of the Emeritus Center at UB.

She is survived by two daughters, Anne and Martha; a sister, Jeanne Rost; and a brother, William Winkler.

A service will be at 5 p.m. Sunday in Harry A. Wedekindt Funeral Home, 280 Grover Cleveland Highway, Amherst.
