LEWISTON – The student chapter of the American Chemical Society at Niagara University has been recognized for the third straight year for its activities, programs and initiatives.
The student chapter has been selected for a “commendable award” for its work during the 2011-2012 academic year. Dr. Christopher S. Stoj, chairman of the biochemistry and chemistry department at Niagara, was notified of the award by the American Chemical Society’s Committee on Education.
The 35-member Niagara chapter and 80 other student chapters that won similar awards will be honored at the Chemical Society’s 245th national meeting April 7 in New Orleans. A total of 362 chapters competed for the awards. John Leistner and Annie Palermo, both of whom graduated last spring, were co-presidents of the local student chapter for 2011-12.
