We’re still on the road to being better society

As part of Dr. Martin Luther King’s civil rights work, he stood up for the garbage collectors of Memphis, Tenn., who were working in very poor conditions at low pay. This was where he was when assassinated, helping those who had little power or recognition, and emphasizing peaceful nonviolent protest.

It is a great counterbalance against prejudice, inequality and greed to have a day to honor someone who advocated for a better society. We are still on the road to becoming that better society.
