ALBANY – Gov. Andrew Cuomo this week will begin a statewide television advertising campaign touting his 2013 state budget plans and urging residents to push lawmakers to embrace his ideas.
The ad campaign, which will cost several hundred thousand dollars in the initial buy, will discuss his plans for economic development, holding the line on new tax increases, and various investment efforts, an aide said Wednesday.
The ad will be paid for partially by Cuomo’s 2014 campaign – which has $22 million in the bank – and the New York State Democratic Committee, which has $217,000 in its central campaign account.
“Certainly, we need to make public the good things the state party and the governor are doing, because it’s great work,” said Assemblyman Keith Wright, a Manhattan Democrat and co-chairman of the state party. He said he did not know details about the ad campaign, except that it is coming soon.
It remains uncertain whether the Committee to Save New York, a pro-Cuomo support group that in the past has spent in excess of $10 million on advertising campaigns pumping up Cuomo’s name and policies, will support the pro-Cuomo ad buy, as it has the past two years. Capital observers suspect that the committee, whose donor list has been secret until now, may be less active since, under the state’s ethics law, its contributors now must be revealed.
A spokesman said the group would share its plans “when we have something to say.”
