The Genesee Valley Educational Partnership School Library System in LeRoy is one of five libraries nationwide being honored by the American Library Association for its innovative use of technology, the ALA announced Tuesday.

The libraries and their services will be featured in a program at the association’s annual conference in Chicago June 27 to July 2.

The Genesee Valley system was cited for its crowd-sourced WEBOOKS program, which allows libraries in 22 school districts to pool their library material budgets and collaborate on their purchasing. As a result, the system can buy more e-books than the schools could buy individually. Several districts were so enthusiastic about the project that they provided additional funds for it.
