New state gun law is violation of our rights

When I was 14 years old, I took the NRA hunter safety training so that I might obtain my junior hunting licence. This allowed me the great privilege of many happy moments afield with my father. That was my right.

After serving three years in the military, I raised four children, all law-abiding citizens. None of them chose to purchase or possess any firearms for either hunting or collecting. That was their right.

I have had many friends over the years who have enjoyed responsible sport shooting with automatic weapons. They encouraged me to purchase one and join them. I chose not to. Again, that was my right.

The recent politically motivated gun law pushed through the New York State Legislature is a joke. It was a knee-jerk reaction only for political gain. This, in my opinion, violated my rights.

Does anyone with a good sense of logic think for a split second that this legislation will keep criminals or mentally unstable people from acquiring automatic or any other weapon they need to carry out their demented plots? I think not.

Need I remind everyone that the last several horrific mass shootings were all accomplished by either previously convicted felons or mentally challenged individuals, who had no right to be in possession of these weapons?

We are only beginning to take away the rights of the law-abiding citizen, while upholding the rights of murderers, felons and the mentally unstable.
