The Zoning Board of Appeals will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday in City Council chambers in City Hall, 714 Ridge Road.

• A City Council meeting originally scheduled for Tuesday has been changed to Jan. 28.

• The board of the Global Concepts Charter School in Lackawanna will hold its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the school auditorium, 1001 Ridge Road

• A series of monthly children’s programs in the Gift Shop at Our Lady of Victory National Shrine & Basilica will kick off 5:30 to 6 :30 p.m. on Jan. 29, with Mike Randall of WKBW Channel 7 performing a puppet and magic show for kids of all ages.

The regular Tuesday night programs will feature a variety of family-friendly themes. Reservations are not required for the puppet show, but parents should remain with their children during the event.

• Applications to take the firefighter exam are due at the Lackawanna Civil Service Commission in Room 213 of City Hall by Feb. 6. There is a $25 filing fee. Candidates must have a high school degree or equivalency diploma, as well as any one of the following: three years active military experience; an associate’s degree; completion of 60 credit hours at an accredited college or university; or five years experience as a volunteer firefighter in New York.

The exam is scheduled for March 9, and results will determine an eligibility list in filling future vacancies in the Lackawanna Fire Department.
