One really can’t compare shotgun to assault weapon

The Jan. 16 letter from a SCOPE member just proved how out of touch those people are. Adam Lanza could have done the same thing in Newtown with an old double-barreled shotgun? No, he couldn’t. True, the kids couldn’t have done much, but the adults could have – and one tried. The principal risked her life on the slight chance she could hold him long enough for help to arrive. (Besides, do you think the kids would’ve waited patiently while he was reloading?)

Many of the spree killers are stopped when they are tackled by civilians while they are trying to reload. It happened in Arizona. If Lanza had had an old shotgun, that principal would have had a better chance of coming through it a hero instead of a martyr.
