Buffalo AmeriCorps from the Belle Center will lead 50 volunteers in a service project at SS. Columba-Brigid Catholic Church in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
During the “Increase the Peace” service project, the volunteers will paint, make repairs, replace some ceiling tiles and clean the outdoor Sister Karen Klimczak Peace Garden, weather permitting.
They also will organize four rooms, including the recently vandalized teen center, which is a safe haven for youth and promotes peace.
The service project will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday at the church, at 418 North Division St.
Thousands of volunteers nationally will participate in this MLK Day of Service, which is led by the Corporation for National and Community Service, a federal agency that works with the King Center in Atlanta, nonprofit groups, faith-based organizations, schools and business nationwide.
