Three people were injured Friday afternoon when a driver mistakenly stepped on the gas and drove into them as they stood near a Goodwill Industries trailer in the parking lot of an Amherst supermarket.
Renee Hauser, 47, whose home address was not released by Amherst police, was thrown to the ground in the Tops Supermarket parking lot on Maple Road when David Celani, 69,of Tonawanda, mistakenly hit the gas pedal of his 2007 Chrysler and slammed head-on into Ms. Hauser’s 2005 Dodge van about 2 p.m., according to police. Hauser was bringing donations to the trailer.
Frank Rovison, 82, who was Ms. Hauser’s passenger, who was standing behind her van, also was thrown to the ground. Johnnie McCoy, 59, a Goodwill employe, was knocked off the platform of the trailer by the impact of the crash.
All three were taken to Erie County Medical Center by Twin City Ambulance. Hauser remained at the hospital Friday night while McCoy and Rovison were both treated and released. Celani was not injured.
The investigation continues and Amherst police are asking any witnesses to call with information at 689-1311.
