John J. Walder, a lifelong resident of the Town of Tonawanda who had a lengthy career as a transportation sales executive, died Sunday after a battle with cancer. He was 61.
Mr. Walder’s began working on the docks for Central Freight when he was 21 and still a student at Buffalo State College. There, he was promoted to supervisor and then sales account manager.
He went on to manage the Batavia terminal for Central Freight for five years and was the firm’s national accounts executive when it closed in 2001.
After his career at Central Freight ended, Mr. Walder worked for Central Trucking, Watson Transportation, FedEx and most recently he was a regional sales representative for Timothy O’Connell at Productive Transportation.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, the former Barbara Venezia; a daughter, Kristen; and a son, John Jr.
