A 14-year-old Amherst boy was arrested on felony burglary and other charges and placed in a juvenile detention facility today, and is accused of break-ins at Sweet Home Middle School twice in the last two months.

Amherst Detectives Edward Bailey and Mark Pitirri, of the Special Victims Unit, said the teen was first arrested Dec. 16, when he was and charged with burglarizing the Maple Road school and causing more than $3,000 in damage.

After Erie County Family Court proceedings last month, the boy was released from custody.

The teen allegedly broke into the school again on Sunday and caused more than $1,000 more in damage, the detectives said. The boy will be held in a detention facility as he faces court proceedings on two counts of third-degree burglary, two counts of criminal mischief, and a count of possession of burglar’s tools.
