WARSAW – State Police seek information on a man masquerading as a police officer who stopped a 21-year-old woman driver on Route 98 this week and sought personal information from her.
The woman was stopped just north of the Village of Arcade in Wyoming County about 2:25 p.m. Tuesday, troopers said.
She said the man was white, about 6 feet tall and believed to be in his 30s. He had a medium build and blond hair. He wore a blue uniform with no insignia, and a duty belt with a gold shield and a collapsible baton but no holster or weapon. He was driving a navy blue four-door sedan with blue lights on the windshield and some sort of police insignia on the driver’s door, troopers said.
Any one that has information is asked to contact the Batavia barracks at (585) 786-2299 or Clarence barracks at (716) 759-6831.
Troopers added that anyone who believes they are being stopped on the road by someone other than a law enforcement officer should try to immediately contact 911 or drive directly to the nearest police station.
