Buffalo police arrested a man on stolen car and other charges thanks to an electronic license plate reader in a patrol car.

Mohamud H. Mohamud, 20, no address listed, was arrested by Officers Eric J. Kross and Brian Connors at 10th and Hudson streets just after midnight Wednesday, shortly after their patrol car’s “plate reader did a hit,” indicating the car Mohamud was driving west on Porter Avenue had been stolen Sunday night, according to a police report.

As the officers turned and pursued Mohamud, he allegedly accelerated and drove onto Fargo Avenue, where he blew a stop sign at Jersey Street, police said. He drove the wrong way on Hudson Street before losing control of the vehicle and crashing at 10th and Hudson, the officers reported.

Mohamud, who police said had a 15-year-old girl in the stolen car with him, was charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, criminal possession of stolen property, unlawful fleeing of a police officer in a motor vehicle, reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child.
