FORT ERIE, Ont. – A million-dollar mansion on the Niagara Parkway in rural Niagara Falls burned to the ground early Thursday evening.

The family of four who lived in the sprawling house overlooking the Niagara River at Marshall Road, were not at home when the fire broke out about 5 p.m., Niagara firefighters said.

The fire began in the garage, but spread to the house, consuming the entire structure, according to the Fort Erie Times. Almost 40 firefighters from three volunteer companies responded to the multiple-alarm fire.
